About
I'm Maya. I've been photographing weddings in and around Toronto for [number] years, and I still get nervous before the ceremony starts — in the good way.
My background is in documentary work, which is a fancy way of saying I'm more interested in what's actually happening than in what would look nice arranged. On the day I work quietly and close. I'll give you a handful of directions when you need them and otherwise stay out of the way. Most couples tell me afterwards they forgot I was there, which is the highest compliment this job gets.
I shoot on two bodies with prime lenses, mostly available light, and I don't use a flash during the ceremony unless the room genuinely can't be read without one. I edit everything myself — warm, true-to-skin colour, film-leaning grain, no orange-and-teal filter that will look dated in four years.
How a wedding works with me
- We talk first. A call or a coffee, no deposit, no pressure. I want to know what you actually care about and what you'd hate.
- We build a loose plan. Timeline, light, the two or three moments that matter most. Everything else stays flexible.
- I show up early. I photograph the room before anyone's in it, the getting-ready chaos, and the small things you'll have missed.
- You get a full gallery in [number] weeks. High-resolution downloads, print-ready files, and a shareable link for family.
What I'm like to work with
Direct, calm, and quick to laugh. I'm good with nervous people and better with grandparents. I'll tell you if your timeline is going to hurt you, and I'll never make you do something that feels stupid for the sake of a photograph. If you want a photographer who'll direct every frame like a magazine shoot, I'm not that — but I'll happily point you to someone who is.
